I have been captivated by a single word over this past week. Peace. What is Peace? Yea, I know that peace is basically the absence of conflict. Much like darkness is the absence of light. But is it really – with light, you either have it or it’s dark. If you have no conflict does that mean you have peace?
It struck me last week as I was saying goodbye to someone I ended with Peace. As I got in my car and drove away, I was thinking Peace, what does that even mean. Christians, we seem to throw that word around a lot. I haven’t looked but I have probably signed off on all of my posts to this blog with Peace. So, am I hoping that you all have no conflict? Yea, I mean, I wouldn’t wish conflict on anybody…well, maybe that one guy…sorry, I digress. But seriously, when someone says to you – “peace”; what do you think when you hear that?
Ok, so instead of boring you with my research on this, here is what I have concluded. As I look at my life in it’s current state in reference to things that could possibly cause me conflict, I realize that generally, I have pretty good peace in my life right now. I have peace within my marriage, my kids, my job, extended family, friends, etc. I am, however, in constant conflict with my finances! And even though there is general peace, there is still some troubles from time to time in at least one or a couple of those areas as I go day to day.
But that is not a true statement. Our Father, who was in the Garden, makes His peace available to all of us, even today. Through His son, Jesus, we can know a TRUE PEACE! John 14:27 – Peace, I leave with you; My Peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
I think we tend to forget that we have this Peace available to us 24/7. Trials and tribulations will come and go but the Peace of Jesus will carry on, always! And He, Jesus, left His peace with us. What a great verse!!
For me now, that means if I am troubled, then my focus is not where it should be! My prayer today is that in all trials, and conflicts that may arise in my life, that I would seek His will, and let His grace and peace overflow me!
Thanks for reading! And Peace be to you!
